What a HUGE mistake! After installation, the crevice between the gaurd ("Helmet") and the gutter has attracted house sparrows, which now nest in the convenient gap. We have seen leaves and debris blown over the guard and lodge in the gutter. Water drips between the gutter and house for days after raining. The worst problem, however; are the 3 years of ice dams and icicles which now form on the guard in both front and back of the house. This NEVER happened before, and no other modification has been made to add to the problem. The ice load get so heavy that when it finally releases it sounds like a train rushing down the roof and with explosive force smashes into the ground, crushing anything it lands on. We are afraid to let our pets out during these episodes, thinking harm may come to them. Thanks Gutter Helmet leaf guard system, your product has posed both safety and structural dangers to our home, and instead of being an amenity it has DEVALUED the overall worth of our house. We consider Gutter Helmet leaf guard system as the WORST possible option in home improvement, and in recourse, we will be romoving the Gutter Helmet leaf guar system and throwing it where it belongs - IN THE TRASH!

Re: Rant the Second: Gutter Helmet, Again

I had Gutter Helmet installed at my cottage less than two years ago. I noticed this spring water was dripping out the end of the eavestroughs. Upon inspection, they were full of water. All four downspouts were completely clogged. I called the salesperson who sold me the stuff who said he would get back to me and there would probably be a service charge for them to inspect the problem. He never called back. I removed downspout connections and cleaned the evestroughs myself. <br>Regular eavestroughs would probably collect the same amount of debris, but would be easier to clean and half the price.
